Firewaterontherocks graces the cover of the 2016 Speedhorse Barrel Stallion Register for a host of reasons. The 2002 palomino stallion, ridden by owner Robyn Herring for most of his career but also by Latricia Duke, has been turning the barrels since he was a three year old in 2005.
From only two official starts that year, he won the BFA World Championship Futurity 2D. In 2006, he became a barrel Champion when he won the Future Fortunes Mississippi Futurity. Things got better and better from there. In 2007, he was the WPRA World Finals Derby Champion. He earned other WPRA Champion titles at these events: Reno Rodeo, Spanish Fork, UT, Goliad, TX, Beaumont, TX (twice), Lufkin, TX, Crockett, TX, Vernon, TX, Belton, TX, Mercedes, TX, New Braunfels, TX, Corpus Christi, TX, Gladewater, TX, Pecos, TX, etc., etc.
The above listed victories are just the tip of the iceberg for this master barrel racer.
In 2014, Firewaterontherocks capped off his many accolades as Reserve Champion at the RFD-TV’s
The American - the world’s richest one-day rodeo.
As of this writing, Firewaterontherocks has earnings approaching $250,000 (according to Equi-Stat), and he keeps on racing.
Now, we move to the breeding shed. But
first you have to realize that, while breeding, Firewaterontherocks continued to compete. This
is quite a feat for any stallion. His first foals to hit the arena were born in 2008. This means he began breeding in 2007 - two years after he himself began barrel racing, and he kept on racing through the years while continually siring a group of top barrel racers and Champions that together have earned over $663,000. His top earner is 2015 competitor Firewatermakesmehappy with over $180,000 banked as of this writing.
Firewaterontherocks has a pedigree that is golden. He is out of 2-time race winner Rock N Roll Rona. The mare is a daughter of flat racing’s 1986 All American Futurity winner Ronas Ryon, a 2-time AQHA Champion, an AQHA Hall of Fame Horse, a High Money Earning Horse, and a New Track Record setter who earned $1,777,976.
Firewaterontherocks is sired by Fire Water Flit, or “Milo” as he is known. Milo earned a Register of Merit on the flat track and was an unstoppable and phenomenal barrel performer in the arena. Much can be said about Fire Water Flit, including being the sire of more Champions in every division than any other
stallion. Fire Water Flit has a breeding that is representative of a “magic cross,” This “magic cross” comes from crossing Flit Bar with Slash J Harletta, a mare that was so successful a producer that she is referred to as a dynasty. Firewaterontherocks has certainly proven that he
has inherited this magic and that he is on his way to building a dynasty of his own as he is passing this magic on to his progeny.
Firewaterontherocks - like his sire and so many in the barrel industry - also has a nickname. His is “Happy” and
we can see why. Not only is he one happy horse - both in
the arena and in the breeding shed, but he has also made
his owner happy and he has made his foal’s owners happy. Apparently, there’s enough Firewaterontherocks to go around as he continues to build his legacy in the barrel racing world.
