The Van Amburghs bought Mr PYC To You with Jimmy Harrel and Howard Nichols for $160,000 at the 2014 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. That partnership campaigned the colt until Flores became part owner in 2017.
The Mixer Ranch bred Mr PYC To You in Oklahoma and consigned him to the sale via Lazy E Ranch LLC as agent. Stylish Sign, the dam of Mr PYC To You, has produced nine winners from 12 starters, including Grade 1 winner First Painted Sign and multiple stakes winner Second Painted Sign.
It should be noted that owner/trainer
Jose Flores finished first and second place in this race as trainer. This feat was previously accomplished by Blane Schvaneveldt with Refrigerator in the 1994 running of Champion of Champions.
Cruz Mendez piloted Heza Dasha Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Dasha Freda) to second for Flores and owner S-Quarter K LLC. The World Champion of 2015, Heza Dasha Fire is a multiple graded winner who has earned more than $2 million.
Jim Walker’s homebred Zoomin For Spuds (Zoomin For Bux-A Perfect Cocktail) ran third with Jesus Ayala aboard. Monty Arrossa
trains the 4-year-old gelding, who won the Champion of Champions in 2016.
Jess Good Reason (Good Reason SA-Jess Call Me Tieing), whose owner, John Sperry, died eight days before the race at age 81, finished fourth, followed by BH Lisas Boy (Mighty Invictus-Apollo Snowbound), Da One Two Special (Two Corona Special-Da One), He Looks Hot (Walk Thru Fire-Look Her Over), Time For Jess (Apollitical Jess- Coronation Time), Chazaq (Corona Cartel-All About Ease) and The Fiscal Cliff (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Signs Zoomer).
