Captain Force and Cloud Ridge finished in a dead heat to win the Black
Gold 440 Championship Futurity-RG3 at Will Rogers Downs on Nov. 11.
Captain Force got a decent break from the 5-hole under Edwuin Lujan, while Cloud Ridge broke a bit behind from the 7-hole under Berkley Packer. Cloud Ridge surged late and Captain Force held on, crossing the line exactly even and stopping the clock at :21.956.
This is the first win for
Captain Force since he broke
his maiden in his first out in
June. The $80,527 winner’s
share pushed his earnings to $85,512 and race record to 5-2(1)-0-1. Cloud Ridge also added first place money of $80,527 to his account, which
now totals $163,529. His
race record is 7-5(2)-1-1(1) with a win in the Easy Jet Stakes-RG3 and a third in the Dash For Cash Futurity-G2.
Captain Force is owned by Pedro Andazola and trained by Michel-Valverde Hipolito. Bred in Kentucky by Gentry Farms, the colt

Cloud Ridge is owned/ bred by Randy J. Davis and trained by Stacey Capps. The gelding is out of two-time win-
ner Snow Clouds. The mare has produced 100% winners from five starters. Cloud Ridge is her top earner and first stakes winner.
“This is a really nice horse,” said Berkley Packer of Cloud Ridge. “He’s gonna be an even better 3 year old. He is a good gate horse, but he doesn’t leave there very fast and it gets him in trouble. So far, he has been able to overcome that trouble.” Trainer Stacy Capps offered, “This horse will give you a heart attack. You think he’s in trouble, then here he comes. It’s a team effort here and we are looking at the Heritage Place Derby and then maybe Ruidoso.”
Hot Dam Bam A Lam (Captain Courage-Hot Nova) was 3rd under Gonzalo Guiterrez for owner Gene Cox and trainer Donnie Strickland. Followed by DG Tempter (Tempting Dash-DG Miss Daisy), One Sweet Policy (One Sweet Jess-CC Policy), Luke Acey (Furrtreeous-Mea Chick Too), Fast
N Furious 123 (Furyofthewind-Tresor 123), Can You PYC Me (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Last First Kiss) & Ruler Of The Realm (Apollitical Jess-KGB Agent Anna). A Prize Wagon was scratched.
Lazie Too), the fastest qualifier and post-time favorite at 2-1 odds, made a game run for
second place. The filly, who won the FL Lady Bug Stakes at Remington Park back in May, is owned by Gordon Pevehouse, trained by Clinton Crawford, and had Omar Reyes in the irons. The Valiant One (Valiant Hero-Jessa Leaving You), a 15-1 longshot, surprised in third for Darling Farms. The R.L. Robinson trainee had Edwuin Lujan aboard.
