Mexicano Futurity
GULF COAST STREAKER
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
Nine participants faced each other on the track in the 400-yard Mexicano Futurity that had a purse of $343,400 pesos (approxi-
mately $17,934 US) on Nov. 5th.
Gulf Coast Streaker (#3) was the favorite to
win because his background was significantly better than the other horses in the race. In the current season, he won both the John Deere Mexico Juvenile Challenge and the Jodys Glory Classic.
Shortly after the start of this race, Gulf Coast Streaker was hit on his right side as a result of the “domino effect” caused by the colt SF Shoots Flyer (#6). Despite this, Gulf Coast Streaker began to pull away and freed himself from the onslaught of Shes The Bank (#8) on the right side of the track, who stepped danger- ously close to the winner’s neck, with Runaway For First (#1) in third place.
Gulf Coast Streaker hit the wire in :19.80, earning an 88 speed index. The win was his first start at 400 yards and was his fourth con- secutive victory. His best speed indexes have been obtained at 350 yards.
SF Shoots Flyer was disqualified from fourth to last place for the infractions commit- ted at the start of the competition.

Challenge and the Alfredo Castro Rea Classic. Shes The Bank was ridden by Moisés González García for Cuadra San Lázaro de Arará and
trainer Leonilo Cruz García. Runaway For First
