OF THE YEAR NOMINEES
Following is a list of broodmares for 2018 that have been nominated for the 8th Annual Speedhorse Broodmare of the
Year Award. Since its inception years ago, the original Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award was based on achievement and through their achievement we have honored many of our industry’s great broodmares. The naming of the 2018 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year will follow that long standing tradition.
The 2018 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year award is dedicated to highlighting the contribution of the mare to the racehorse industry by bringing together the top mares from four AQHA racing categories:
• Dams of 2018 Champions
• Top 5 Dams of 2018 Money Earners
• Top 5 Dams of 2018 Stakes Winners (ranked
1st by number of Stakes Winners & 2nd by Money Earned)
• Top 5 Dams of 2018 Stakes Wins (ranked 1st by number of Stakes Wins & 2nd by Money Earned)
All of these mares are worthy candidates for this honor. They were awarded points based on their placing in the respective categories they qualified for: 5 points for first in a category down to 1 point for
fifth place. The dams of Champions are awarded 5 points for World Champion, 4
for overall divisional Champions, and 3 for age division Champions. A horse receiving both an overall divisional and an age division championship will receive the higher award of 4 points.
Only Quarter Horse foals are considered and listed for each mare. Under each mare’s name is a summary of her 2018 produce record. The statistics include: Starters, Winners,
Stakes Winners, Number of Stakes Wins,
Stakes Placers, 2018 Money Earnings and 2018 Leading Money Earner with 2018 Earnings.
This is followed by the categories by which the mare made the list of nominees. Her leading 2018 starter(s) follows, then any additional 2018 starters.
A big part of the Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award is to identify the top mares in each category and that is the purpose of this summary. We hope you enjoy reading about some of the industry’s best broodmares of 2018.
The 2018 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award winner is Tinys Corona Queen. The owners of this horse will receive an engraved trophy signifying their mare as the winner. Tinys Corona Queen is covered in depth in this Broodmare Issue in a special feature as well as in our Speedlines feature.
