  Swingin Daddyo Retires
Swingin Daddyo (Agouti-Swingin Otoole, Jody O Toole), winner of the 2010 Grade 1 Rainbow Derby, was retired after leading the post parade for the Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge at Ruidoso Downs on July 1. The 2007 sorrel gelding was bred by MLA Interna- tional Co., is owned by Debra M. Gotovac, and was trained by Bradley Bolen. Swingin Daddyo won or placed in 15 of 28 career starts, earning $717,658 and setting a track record for 400 yards at Lone Star Park.

   Don Drake
Trainer Don Drake Passes Away
Longtime trainer Don Drake, 75, passed away in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, on June 30. Drake’s love of horses began at an early age and lasted a lifetime. In 1975 he decided to train full time and, with his wife LaJuana, established Drake’s Racing Stables. He was named leading trainer several times at Blue Ribbon Downs. He eventually turned his business over to his son David, but continued to give advice until his passing. Drake was preceded in death by his wife earlier this year, and is survived by daughter Donna Kay Arm- strong, daughter Janet Sue Taylor, son Charles David Drake, and numerous grandchildren, relatives and friends.

due to a gate malfunction. The gates did not open when the starter pushed the button, and then several gates randomly opened. Stewards will make a decision whether to re- run the race later in the meet or to distribute the purse between the seven horses who did not scratch prior to the mishap and no-race designation by the stewards.
USEF Aids Horses Affected By Wildfires
The United States Equestrian Federa- tion (USEF) Equine Disaster Relief Fund is accepting donations to help with the costs of relocating, feeding and caring for horses affected by the recent wildfires in Colorado. In a USEF press release, CEO John Long stated: “It is important to understand this fund is a dollar in and a dollar out, nothing is withheld.” Donations can be made online at www.usef.org, or making your check out to USEF Equine Disaster Relief Fund, and mailing it to The United States Equestrian Federation, 4047 Iron Works Parkway, Lex- ington, KY 40511.

  Grade 1 Recipe:
 Ingredients:
1 large can whole mild green chiles
1 lb. Monterrey Jack cheese, cut in strips 1/4” thick
1/2 lb. grated Cheddar cheese
5 large eggs
1/4 c. flour
1-1/4 c. milk
1/2 teaspoon salt black pepper to taste Liquid red pepper to
taste Paprika

Chile Rellenos

PREPARATION
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9 x 12 baking dish.
Rinse seeds from chiles, place on paper towels, pat dry. Stuff whole chile with strip of Monterrey Jack cheese and place in greased baking dish in single layer. Spread cheddar cheese over top of chiles and sprinkle with paprika.
With mixer beat eggs. Gradually add flour beating until smooth. Add milk, salt, peppers to eggs and flour. Beat until frothy and care- fully pour egg mixture over all.
Bake uncovered in preheated 350 degree oven 45 minutes.
I got this recipe in the 1970›s. Whenever I take it to a potluck, I get asked for the recipe.
