                                David feels the best thing at the racetracks is the Chaplaincy program. He is especially fond of Chaplain Jimmy Sistrunk at Louisiana Downs. “I love what Chaplain Jimmy does on the backside. He helps so many... That’s where I found Jesus.” Like most, David is quick to add that the worst part of the racetrack is being away from his family.
As we were wrapping up our discussion, David chose to add some advice to the young riders. His words of wisdom: “First, be faithful to God, then to family, then to your career, and finally, to life itself.” Having known him since he was a young gallop boy, I was very proud that David didn’t want to close without a posi- tive word for the next generation of jockeys.
In closing, I asked David, if a book were written about him, how would it be titled? “Jesus is the Victory” was his reply. I’m sure that this makes Chaplain Jimmy proud, and rightly so.

   One of David Alvarez’s most notable wins was aboard Champion Open Me A memories. He picked up the longshot mount from his brother Jose, and David Corona in the $1 million 2012 LQHBA Breeders’ Futurity-RG1 at Evangeline Downs said it was the first time that he began riding for God.
