LQHBA Breeders’ Invitational Stakes
Beer And PeAnutS
by Tracy Gantz
Astumble at the start didn’t deter Beer And Peanuts. Despite the mishap, the gray Louisiana-bred gelding scored his first stakes victory in the Nov. 17 LQHBA Breeders’ Invitational Stakes at Evangeline Downs.
Starts have compromised Beer And Peanuts’ chances before. After a second and a first at Delta Downs, he broke outwardly in the Louisiana Bred Futurity-RG1 and could only finish seventh. Second
in his trial for the LQHBA
Breeders’ Futurity-RG1, he
didn’t qualify for the final.
The Invitational, however,
was his moment.
When the gate opened, Beer And Peanuts’ stumble shuffled him back to sev- enth. But champion jockey G.R. Carter Jr. was aboard, and he instantly put Beer And Peanuts back into the race. They came on with a
late surge to pass horses and win by a neck in :19.880 for the 400 yards.
Heath Taylor trains Beer And Peanuts
for owner Lionel Zapata. Darrell Williams bred the gelding, who went through the 2011 LQHBA Yearling Sale as part of the Fortune Farms consignments and was a $5,200 buy- back. He has now earned $52,321.
Streakin Attitude produced Beer And Peanuts, one of two winners
from three starters for the mare. Taylor trained Streakin Attitude for Williams, and she won three of 11 races,
her best stakes perfor-
mance a fourth in the 2004 Firecracker Futurity-G2. The second dam, Grade 1-placed Cash Attitude, is a full sister to two Grade 2 winners and also produced Harrahs’ Entertainment Futurity-G3 winner Streak N Attitude.
Jaime Torres’ Coltins Fast Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Six Streakin Salute) ran second under Raul Ramirez Jr. Fructuoso Huitron trains the gelding. At Delta Downs, Coltins Fast Dash won the Louisiana Laddie Futurity-RG2.
Miguel Rodriguez owns and trains Lets Play Yacht Sea (First N Kool-Yacht Sea), who held on for third for jockey Jerry Yoakum. In her only other stakes performance, the filly ran fourth in the Louisiana Lassie Futurity-RG2.
Rounding out the field were Jethro Almitey (Heza Fast Dash-Dash In The Wind), JCS Who (Heza Fast Dash-Special Rockette), Big Timer (Bigtime Favorite-Our Fancy Native), Ausmor Brees (Chick Happens-Ms Maggies First), Jettin For A Fortune (Jet Black Patriot- Osceolas Fortune), Built Perry Tough (First Prize Perry-Kiss My Caboose), and City Street (Game Patriot-Della Loom).
