COMBINATION

Peanut butter and jelly. Macaroni and cheese. Bacon and eggs. Some things work just fine by themselves,
but when combined, form an exceptional concoction. Such is the case with Bob and Darian Burt.
Throughout his life, Bob has had an uncanny knack for choosing bloodlines that excel, both on the flat track and at bar-
rels. Since the early 2000s, Darian has been starting the youngsters, handling the bulk of public contact and managing the paperwork involved with breeding, racing and selling their stock. It’s a well-crafted recipe that’s produced a long line of winners since the couple married 12 years ago.
DEVELOPING HIS GIFT
Bob grew up in Richfield, Utah, about 150 miles south of the couple’s present home base, Misty Mountain Ranch and Horse On Course in West Jordan, Utah. Along the route between Richfield and West Jordan, you’ll find their broodmare-and-foal operation in Payson and their hay operation in Goshen.
Raised on his grandparents’ and uncles’ farms, Bob soon discovered the fun of hopping onto the work horses while out in the pastures doing farm work. “Somewhere along the line, I’d sneak down there and find out which one was the fastest,” he recalls. “The pastures had long lanes and I could really roll! Nobody really knew I was doing it, but basically, the speed was just in me.”
