Country Flying Chick raced only one time as a 2-year-old, finishing second, and had a spo- radic three-race sophomore year without a win. Now,
as a 4-year-old, the mare is on a roll with back-to- back wins in the trials and finals of the $66,300 Sam Houston Maiden Classic Stakes.
Trained by Jorge Barrera, Country Flying Chick made her 4-year-old debut in the trials to the Sam Houston Maiden Classic. The mare ran a picture- perfect race under jockey David Alvarez, going wire-to-wire to break her maiden and earn a spot in the April 7 finals.
With Alvarez again in the irons, Country Flying Chick loaded into post position eight for the finals, right next to favored JC Senor Seis in the seven hole. Those two rivals, joined by Jump Down Azoom on the inside part of the track, hooked up for a three- way battle to the wire, with Country Flying Chick prevailing by a neck over Jump Down Azoom.
The win was worth $26,520 for owner Mariel Guerra Jr. Country Flying Chick has now won two of six starts and $28,985. She is the leading money earner for her dam, the Bono Jazz mare Bonos Flyer.
Crowson Racing’s Jump Down Azoom (Azoom- Jump Down First) has now settled for four runner- up efforts in eight starts. Wendy Garcia trains the 3-year-old gelding who was ridden by Juan Garcia.
In third was Eleazar Martinez Sr.’s JC Senor Seis (Tres Seis-Sugar Snap Pea). Luis Vivanco rode the 3-year-old colt for trainer Yasmine Fierro.
The remaining order of finish was: Tinys Easy Sunshine (Tinys First Corona-My Winter Darling), Zoom In On It (Shazoom-A Dancing Queen), Mandalay Moon (Corona Cartel-Just Checking Out), Latest Dive (Latest Version-Sky Dive), Azoom Cash Flow (Azoom-Tylers Cash Flow), Down Thru Time (First Down Dash-Fly Thru Time), and Im A Feature Girl (Feature Mr Jess-This Girl Is Special).

rightamountofwrong experienced a very troubled trip in her debut on March 31 in the trials to the Sam Houston Futurity-G2, finishing fifth. Trainer
Cindi Keeton entered the filly right back in the Sam Houston Juvenile Stakes, for non-qualifiers, on April 14. This time, Rightamountofwrong benefited from a clean trip to win the $25,000 stake by a neck.
Ridden by Francisco Ramirez Jr., Rightamountofwrong loaded into post position
one for the Sam Houston Juvenile. Breaking well, Rightamountofwrong dueled for the early lead with Tactical Weapon and Queenoffury before taking control midway through the 330 yards. The Fly Jess Fly filly held off Tactical Weapon to win in :17.037.
A 10-1 outsider, Rightamountofwrong is owned by the partnership of Potts, Powers, Smith and Stanfield. The filly earned $15,000 for her first win. She is now the third winner from four starters for her dam, Aftertheloveisgone. Rightamountofwrong is a half-sister to 10-time winner Sixes Gone Streakin.
Tactical Weapon (Dashin Bye-So Elegantly) faced Rightamountofwrong in their Sam Houston Futurity trial, finishing a step ahead of the filly in fourth. He was a step behind in second this time, with Eleazar Hernandez in the saddle for trainer Joe Rangel. Jesus Brayen Martinez owns the gelding.
J and M Racing and Farm’s First Alibi Snow (This Snow Is Royal-Ladys First Alibi) was third with Jorge Roman up for trainer Eusevio Huitron.
There was a deadheat for fourth between Sixes Award (Winners Award-First Down Sixes) and Queenoffury (Furyofthewind-Princess Phoebe), with Somekindaturbojet (Toast To Dash-Fancy Lear Jet), Daisies Paint (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Jess Pickin Daisies), Chickie Kool (Country Chicks Man-First Kool Baby), One Corona Then Zoom (Azoom-Katy Corona), and Corona Of Night (Corona Cartel-La Reina De La Noche) completing the field.
