NM Classic Cup Juvenile Champ. (R)
Sent to post at odds of 11-1 in a full field
of 12 state-bred 2-year-old colts and geldings, Diabolical Ruler responded with a 3/4-length vic- tory in the November 4, $140,000 New Mexico Cup Juvenile Championship (R) at Zia Park.
Diabolical Ruler covered 6 furlongs in 1:09.99 while making his first career start
at the distance. Alfredo Juarez Jr. rode the homebred chestnut for owners J. Kirk and Judy Robison and trainer Henry Dominguez.
Diabolical Ruler was stretching out in distance off of his wire-to-wire, 5 1/4-length victory in a 5 1/2-furlong, maiden-special- weight race on Sept. 24. The gelding became the 12th stakes winner from 138 starters sired by Diabolical, a Kentucky-bred son of Artax.
Racing in five countries from 2005-09, Diabolical banked $1,467,401 from 32 starts, and his nine wins included the ’07 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap (G2) at Saratoga and Emirates Airlines Maryland Sprint Handicap (G3) at Pimlico. The stallion has sired the earn- ers of more than $7.4 million from six crops, including multiple stakes winners Diabolical Dame, Liberty Lover, and That’s The Idea.
Diabolical is owned by Fred Alexander and J. Kirk Robison, and he stands for a $4,000 fee at Fred and Linda Alexander’s A & A Ranch.
Diabolical Ruler is the first starter foaled by West Ruler, an 11-year-old winning daughter of Tribal Rule who ran second in the 2011 John Deere California Cup Distaff Stakes (R) at Santa Anita Park. He traces back to his fourth dam, Rajab’s Treasure, an unraced daughter of the stallion Rajab who produced three stakes winners and the earners of $2,074,014, includ- ing Grade 3 winner Big Jewel and listed stakes winners Miss Gibson Country and Charlies Paradise.
Diabolical Ruler has won two of five starts, and the $84,000 winner’s share of the New Mexico Cup Juvenile Championship purse increased the gelding’s earnings
to $117,591. His record includes a third-
place finish, 5 3/4 lengths behind winner Sunscreen, in the 5 1/2-furlong, $110,000 Rio Grande Senor Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs on Sept. 3.
Amor N Pasion, the 2-1 favorite, fin-
ished second to complete a $2 exacta payoff
of $120.40. Sunscreen, Hustle Up, Roll On Diabolical, Quite Peace, Stoney Who, Scotty Who, Comic Hot Rod, Bashful Bob, Insomnia, and Biscuit Snatcher completed the field.
Amor N Pasion is a homebred son of the Pulpit stallion Abstraction campaigned by
Terry B. Adams. The dark bay gelding, a 1/2-brother to stakes-placed runners Colors Of Pompeii and Desert Mystery and a 2-length maiden winner in his debut on October 9, banked the $30,800 runner-up share of the purse gives him $50,300 from two outs.
Sunscreen earned $14,000 to bring his career bankroll to $109,325 for his owners, R.D. Hubbard and Shaun Hubbard. A home- bred chestnut son of the late Southwestern Heat, the gelding has won three of six outs, including the Rio Grande Senor Futurity (R), and he was the runner-up in the 5-furlong, $123,000 Mountain Top Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs in June.
