The $290,000 high seller was Hip #701 Spit Curl Diva. The mare was consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, agent for Reliance Ranches, LLC and was purchased by Rancho La Cobra.
The 44th annual Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale in Oklahoma City took place on Jan. 13-15. The American Quarter Horse Association announced their 2021 Champions the previous evening on Jan. 12.
The sale saw 694 horses sell compared to 536 in 2021. The average increased to $21,280 compared to $18,350 in 2021 and the median rose to $13,500 compared to $13,000 in 2021. Total sales reached $14,768,300, a huge jump compared to $9,835,600 in 2021.
“The 2022 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale finished strong with an average of $21,280 on horses sold,” said Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney. “That represents a 16% increase over the average last year.”
The high seller at $290,000 was Hip #701 Spit Curl Diva si 114 (Spit Curl Jess-Some Kinda Diva, Some Dasher). The 2006 sorrel mare was consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, agent for Reliance Ranches, LLC and purchased by Rancho La Cobra. 3-Time Champion Spit Curl Diva won multiple graded stakes races, including the Speedhorse Gold &
Silver Cup Futurity-G1, AQHA Distaff Challenge Championship-G1, Refrigerator Handicap-G1, Choctaw Blue Ribbon Futurity-G2, Bob Moore Memorial Stakes-G2, Prairie Meadows Championship Challenge-G2, Keokuk Stakes-G3 (twice), Decketta Stakes-G3 & Oklahoma Derby-G3. Spit Curl Diva is by Grade 1 winner Spit Curl Jess and out of winner Some Kinda Diva.
The second-highest seller at $185,000 was Hip #232 SC Divas Cartel Man (Corona Cartel-Spit Curl Diva, Spit Curl Jess). Consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, agent for Reliance Ranches, LLC, the 2018 bay gelding was purchased by Daniel Herrera. 2-time winner SC Divas Cartel Man placed second in the Pat Hyland Memorial Handicap and was a finalist in the Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1, Los Alamitos Super Derby-G1 and Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity-G1. The gelding is by the #2 all-time sire of money earners Corona Cartel and out of the previously mentioned high seller Spit Curl Diva.
The $185,000 second-highest seller was Hip #232 SC Divas Cartel Man. The gelding was consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, agent for Reliance Ranches, LLC and purchased by Daniel Herrera.
