Wente, went to the front at the break and held his position all the way down the track in the $262,104 Shue Fly Stakes-RG2 featuring five finalists bred by Big Daddy Cartel.
Wente came into the finals with the third fastest time after he won his Jan. 7 trial heat by 1 3/4-lengths.
In the finals, he broke on top from the 2-post with Sergio Becerra Jr. in the saddle. They got the first call and with much hustle and encouragement, Wente was a head in front at the halfway point. He crossed the wire a nose in front, stopping the timer in :19.581 to earn a 96 speed index.
The gelding also earned the first place check worth $123,189, which ups his lifetime earnings to $136,599 for owners Jimmy Vasquez and Scott Branson, and his race record stands at two wins out of eight races.
Eric Valenzuela has been in charge of conditioning for the geldings last three outs where he has won two in a row.
