When Colby James first arrived at the barn of the father-and-son trainers James Gonzales II and III, he didn’t want
to settle down. But after the Thoroughbred Risky Revenge agreed to share his goat with the Quarter Horse gelding, things improved. The goat had back-to-back winners Jan. 8-9 at Sunland Park, with Colby James winning the Red Or Green Stakes followed by Risky Revenge taking a $12,500 claiming event.
James Gonzales III, 26 years old, saddled Colby James and Bigg Dee for owner Rex Wells in the 400-yard Red Or Green Stakes. Bettors favored Marcus Medallion, but they made Bigg Dee the narrow second choice over Colby James.
Bigg Dee broke on top from the rail, while Colby James got away in eighth for jockey Ricky Ramirez.
