Connecting mothers, daughters and community:

National Charity League
The Elevation Chapter of the National Charity League united these mothers with their daughters to help make a di erence in their local community.
With a family calendar full of birthday parties, school events, holidays, graduations, practices and much more, it can be hard to nd time to volunteer together.
For mothers and their daughters in seventh to twelfth grade in Douglas County, knowing where to volunteer and making time for it just got a little easier thanks to a few Castle Pines mothers who came together to form a new chapter of the National Charity League (NCL).
NCL is a nonpro t organization dedicated to fostering mother-daughter relationships through community service, leadership development and cultural experiences.
Lisa Glynn, vice president of communications for the new NCL Elevation Chapter said, “The reason we chose to
start a new chapter of NCL is because our daughters wanted to volunteer in their
own community. We started looking for opportunities to allow us to do that.”
After holding its rst meeting in November, the Elevation Chapter is already 86 members strong. “Our focus is giving back to Douglas County,” Glynn said. To date, the Elevation Chapter members have volunteered at the Help & Hope Center of Douglas/Elbert County, Wind Crest Retirement Community, Parker Secret Closet and the American Heart Association, among others.
“It’s been fun, our daughters are getting involved and starting to volunteer,” Glynn said. “The rst thing we did was with the Hope and Help Center where we made valentines and stu ed 100 care packages for seniors.”
Glynn’s daughter, Emily, has joined her mother in volunteering. “I like volunteering and getting experience in di erent parts of the community and getting to know moms and daughters that we wouldn’t have met otherwise. I really enjoyed volunteering at Food Bank of the Rockies,” she said.
In addition to volunteering, each daughter learns leadership skills by ful lling a requirement to serve as an o cer or board member. Mothers and daughters also attend and discuss cultural performances and activities.
The NCL commitment for mothers and daughters is approachable at just 10 hours per year (of course members can do more!). The Elevation Chapter is holding its annual membership drive for the 2019- 2020 school year through March 31.
