Bob served over 30 years in the US Army/Army Reserve and retired as a Colonel, Transportation Corps, Army of the U.S., in 1997. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College, the National Defense University, the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and numerous DoD and Army schools and colleges. Bob is a certified U.S. Army Logistician. He has served on the Adjunct Faculty of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and has been awarded numerous decorations and service medals, including the Meritorious Service Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters.
Bob has been active in Scouts since becoming a Cub Scout in 1953 and an Eagle Scout in 1963. Presently, for the North Florida Council (NFC), he has been/is the International Representative Assistant Council Commissioner, a member of the NFC Executive Board, a Merit Badge Counselor, among other hats. He currently chairs the NFC NESA Committee and is a recipient of the NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award.
He is Presently a member of the BSA’s National Subcommittee on Community Relations, representing MOWW and the National Associations of Masonic Scouters (NAMS)
Bob has attended many Scouting events and training courses, including those at Philmont Scout Ranch, Florida Sea Base, Bechtel Summit Reserve, and the former Schiff Scout Reservation in Mendham, NJ, and has attended many national meetings of the BSA. He has staffed two NOAC events, six National Jamborees, and three World Jamborees, the latest held at Bechtel Summit in 2023.
Bob’s numerous Scouting awards include the Silver Beaver, Silver Elephant, Wood Badge (3 beads), Powder Horn, Sea Badge, Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow, God and Service, Celtic Cross, Todah Jewish Award, Distinguished Commissioner, International Scouter, Military Order of the World Wars. and Daniel Beard Masonic Scouter Awards.
He is a Schiff Fellow in two councils, a Fellow in the OA and NESA Legacy Societies, a Gilwell Fellow in the UK, as well as a member of the Order of the Condor. He and his wife recently were welcomed into the World Scouting Foundation BP Fellowship. He is a member of the BSA’s Good Turn Society.
Active in his church, Bob is an ordained Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church.
His other hobbies include philately, Corvettes, international relations, and world travel.
He is married to the former Sheena Sharp McGuffie of Haddington, Scotland, and they live in Ocala where they moved in late 2011.
