                                  From the
Executive Director
As we approach the Thanksgiving season, I’m reminded of how deeply interconnected our community becomes in times of both celebration and challenge. This year has brought both – moments of joyful community gathering at our Empty Bowls event, and times of critical response during Hurricanes Milton and Helene.
The spirit of Thanksgiving calls us to reflect on abundance and sharing, yet for many in our community, this season highlights the daily struggle with food insecurity. Through the generosity of our donors and partners, we’re preparing for our Thanksgiving distributions to ensure that thousands of families in our service area can share in the warmth and comfort of a holiday meal.
The past few months have tested our community’s resilience, particularly during Hurricanes Milton and Helene. Working alongside our parent organization, Feeding Northeast Florida, we’ve mounted an unprecedented response to these challenges. Together, we distributed 444,891 pounds of food – equivalent to 370,742 meals – including fresh produce, ready-to-eat meals, water, and essential items for our youngest community members such as baby food and formula.
Our response extended beyond food assistance. Through our partnership with Dollar General Distribution Center, we provided nearly 9,000 pounds of cleaning supplies to families working to rebuild. From dishwashing liquid to laundry detergent, from mops to bleach – these basic necessities became crucial tools for recovery. The impact of extended power outages hit close to home – my own family went without power for more than five days. When the lights go out, it’s not just about darkness – it’s about losing sleep, missing work, and watching as food spoils. For families already walking the tightrope of food insecurity, losing a week’s worth of groceries can be devastating. Through our network of hundreds of agency partners, we’ve been there to help replace what was lost, particularly in hard-hit areas like Levy County and Cedar Key.
While we have a long road ahead, I’m continuously inspired by the strength of our community and the unwavering support we receive. From our volunteers who show up day after day, to our partners who step up in times of crisis, to our donors who believe in our mission – you make our work possible.
As we gather around our own Thanksgiving tables this year, know that your support has helped set many other tables in our community. Together, we’re not just distributing food; we’re nourishing hope and fostering resilience in the face of adversity.
