In 2023, UPA’s Gifts in Kind (GIK) program made a significant impact across Palestine. In the West Bank, new hospital beds permitted safe rest for patients and their families, especially those from Gaza who faced difficulties finding accommodation. GIK shipments also brought pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, including chronic disease medications, to mobile clinics serving the most marginalized residents in the West Bank.
High-quality prenatal vitamins were distributed to pregnant women in the West Bank who could not otherwise afford them, thereby improving the health of mothers and their babies.
Although all GIK shipments to Gaza faced significant roadblocks throughout 2023, UPA remained committed and unfazed. In the wake of the assault on Gaza that began in October, we mobilized additional shipments of hygiene kits and lifesaving medications.
UPA anticipated Israel’s restrictions and prepared accordingly, ensuring that perishable items had extended shelf lives so that they remained viable despite delays. Our GIK donors are a critical part of our effort to bring aid to those most in need.
“...supplying Al Razi Hospital with high quality and adequate quantities of medication and disposables has allowed doctors to provide appropriate treatment to their patients, which has helped save many lives and allowed for quicker recovery periods.” —Partner at hospital supported through Fortifying the Palestinian Medical Sector Program
