                                     ž A mature ovum is released through ovulation at around day 14 of the menstrual cycle, as the Graafian follicle ruptures and liberates the ovum into the peritoneal cavity.
ž The fimbria of the fallopian tube transports the ovum into the distal portion of the tube, the infundibulum.
ž Conception, also referred to as fertilization, is the union of an ovum with a sperm.
¡ A sperm, which can live up to 72 hours, unites with the egg in the distal one third of the fallopian tube, most likely in the ampulla.
