Recent bleeds are often hyperechoic or isoechoic to the placenta, while older bleeds may appear anechoic or even hypoechoic depending upon the age of the hemorrhage.
A subchorionic hemorrhage results from the implantation of the fertilized ovum into the uterus with subsequent low-pressure bleeding.
Though large bleeds may be associated with miscarriage and stillbirth, fetal activity is often a reassuring sign that the pregnancy will progress normally.
