Obtaining an accurate last menstrual period (LMP) can be a vital part of the sonographic examination of a pregnant patient.
Menstrual age or gestational age is used by obstetricians, radiologists, and sonographers to date a pregnancy.
They are calculated using the last menstrual period.
An accurate LMP is significant in determining if the
pregnancy is progressing normally.
¡ The obstacle of an inaccurate LMP provided by the patient can be overcome by referencing the level of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) found in the maternal circulation and relating those findings with sonographic findings.
