Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1
GOLDEN BOI
by Tracy Gantz
Johanna Montano of M & G Farms Inc. appreciated the opportunity to bring family and friends to Los Alamitos for the June 20 Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1. Like many own- ers, she had missed seeing a lot of her horses compete with the pandemic restrictions. Even better, M & G Farms’ Golden Boi won the $1,080,000 stakes.
“It’s great to be here to celebrate in per- son,” said Montano. “I’m so glad to be here with my family. Coming from a small town in North Carolina to be here in California, living the dream is great. I think there is a total of 16 or 17 of us in our party, including the little ones.”
Golden Boi had qualified the fastest for the Burke during the May 30 trials after breaking his maiden in his first out and then getting bumped and finishing fourth in an allowance race. Ruben Lozano has ridden the colt in every start for trainer Valentin Zamudio and was back aboard for the Ed Burke finals.
