 Historic Districts
In 1887, the neighboring towns of Hicksford and Belfield merged to form Emporia.
By locating in these beautiful historic districts,
local population as well as the large amount of traffic on I-95.
BELFIELD
Generally consists of late 19th to early 20th century brick buildings in Italianate and Early Commercial architectural styles. The City has been awarded a $719,596 Community Development Block Grant for the Belfield Business District Revitalization Project. The project will primarily provide improvements to commercial facades, streetscape, and pedes- trian access.
HICKSFORD
Generally consists of late 19th century or early 20th century, when Hicksford-Emporia began to evolve from a small agricultural out- post to a large commercial and governmental center. The district includes 36 contributing buildings and 2 contributing objects in the Hicksford section of Emporia.
