MCD Beginnings
The Great Flood of 1913 was Ohio’s greatest natural disaster. Citizens in the Dayton region lost everything yet raised $2 million to pay for the design of a ood protection system. That effort also led to the creation of MCD, a political subdivision of the state of Ohio.
Conservancy districts can build
and maintain structures to reduce ooding. They can also preserve and restore oodplains, conserve and develop water supplies, and provide places to enjoy the outdoors.
