 AUGUST 2020
BarbecueNews.com - 39
I think it is safe to say that all of us cannot wait for 2021. We received news that, unfortunately but not surprisingly, the Susanville and Oroville contests have been canceled. At this point, with the recent spikes in COVID-19 cases and high likelihood that most remaining contests will be postponed or canceled, it seems our ToY season for 2020 has probably ended. In the coming months, our Board of Direc- tors will vote on how to deal with this extremely short season. At this point it seems that the choices are extending the 2020 season into 2021 or forgetting about the 2020 season altogether. We will be sure to keep you posted on the BOD’s decision.
It has been proposed that the Board of Directors consider opening up the CBBQA Team of the Year race so members can score points in states outside of California, Arizona, Ore- gon, and Nevada. As a board, we made the decision, prior to COVID, not to expand beyond these four states. I personally feel it would be irresponsible to revisit this matter during these unprecedented times.
I am excited to share that the Golden State Battle will be held at Cachuma Lake in Santa Ynez on January 22-23, 2021. Please stay tuned for more in-

formation in the coming months about this contest.
I would like to strongly advocate that folks wear a mask so that we can get back to the activities we love. Obviously, there has been a lot of differing opinions on the use of face coverings, some stating that they are ineffective in controlling this disease. I beg to differ and will not delve into the science since the information is readily available for all who choose to read it. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that we can get to better times and have contests and camping trips in the foreseeable future. I miss seeing everyone!
I will see you next month from the corner!
Steph
