A Message from Jeremy Dockendorf
Hello Minnesota BBQ Society!
I have the privilege of introducing myself as your new Pres- ident and am excited to be doing so. I must first say that it is an honor to be in this role and I really look forward to serving. For the last three years I’ve been on the Board of Directors and served on various committees and executive roles, most recently as Vice President. In that time, it’s been a joy to see the growth of this group through the ac- tivities of the board and the membership at large. Our past leaders have set the bar quite high.
Barbeque is a passion for me that started about 10 years ago when I got the wild idea that I wanted to build a smoker to “try this smoking meats thing out.” Turns out it’s a ton of fun! As my experience grew, so did my curiosity for the competitive side of BBQ. After testing my skills in a few backyard contests I eventually worked my way into com- peting at a KCBS Master Series contest. Well, after getting that first top ten call, it’s fair to say I was hooked. It’s a tale as old as time, right?
Fast forward to 2018 and I joined the MBS board because I
was excited to help grow the sport of BBQ in MN. I’ve seen the board accomplish awesome things in my time so far. I have to give thanks to our outgoing President, Stan Do- bosenski. He’s been a tremendous asset in leading the soci- ety for the last three years. I look forward to his guidance in my new role. In addition, I tip my cap to our outgoing Past President, John Scharffbillig, for his many years of service. His guidance, has helped build the MN BBQ Society what it is today. Thank you both for your dedication to all things barbeque in Minnesota!
Finally, I want to invite our membership to participate in any ways that you would enjoy with the society. We have an incredible team of volunteer directors and we’re always looking for more involvement from our membership so that we can serve you better. If you would like to serve on a committee, volunteer for an event, or just have feedback to share please reach out to us at mnbbqsociety@gmail.com.
Cheers and smoke on! -Jeremy Dockendorf
A Message from John Scharffbillig
I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you for the pleasure of serving on the Minnesota BBQ Society’s Board these past years. It has been exciting to see it grow into a vibrant group of 250+ members. I am proud to have been involved in some of the areas of growth, including Spring Training, community outreach with non-profits, and edu- cational efforts with our partners at the Beef Council and Pork Board, the University of Minnesota, the Minnesota As- sociation of Meat Processors, and our incredible group of sponsors.
It’s hard to summarize over a decade of involvement in a few sentences. It has been a pleasure and honor to be in- volved, and see the growth in the society and the enthusi- asm of members and non-members in all of the society’s activities.
I may not be serving directly on the board, but plan to still be active in the society. I look forward to seeing my BBQ friends and family in the upcoming season.
-John Scharffbillig
