This last year, we’ve all been spending a little more time outside around the grill. But here at B & B Charcoal, we have 60 years of grilling experience rooted deep in Texas-style barbecue. We’re just happy to see people getting as excited about the pitmaster lifestyle as we are.
Did you know B & B isn’t just the popular ‘orange bag’ of competition oak briquettes that you see stocked high at the SCA competitions, we have everything from wood pellets, kiln-dried cooking wood, smoking wood chips and chunks, and our signature lump charcoal, briquettes, and char-logs. If you’ve got a grill, we’ve got a fuel for you that burns hotter, longer, with less ash waste and more authentic wood smoke flavor.
With over 60 products to choose from, we know sometimes, just picking one out can be rough, so let’s go over some tips to help make the best use of our better burning charcoal at your next cookout.

Not all charcoal is created equal, start by choosing the right fuel. Different charcoal burns at different temps and durations. Choosing the right charcoal for your grill is the first step. Most grill manufacturers will recommend briquettes, lump charcoal, or even wood logs to burn evenly while cooking. Make sure you start with what is best for the grill and your desired temp before you begin cooking. By default, we go with our Oak Lump Charcoal for most grills.
No lighter fluid needed. Our products are 100% natural wood products. Don’t tarnish that great subtle smoke flavor with chemical lighter fluids. Use a charcoal chimney with all-natural fire starters to get your grill going in under 20 minutes.
Blend your Flavors. Add layers of flavor to your cook once the fire is going by mixing in wood chunks to the coals. Add subtle fruit woods, apple or cherry, for mild foods, like fish or fire-roasted veggies, or mesquite for that hot and fast true Texas barbecue flavor. Not sure which to grab? The Championship Blend is perfect for a versatile range of foods.
Forget the time, it’s all about temp. Watch your fuel throughout the day, use a built-in thermometer or meat probe for low and slow cooks to know the internal temperature of the meat is to know if you need to add fresh charcoal to your grill. A smoker with an ambient temperature option is a huge help to maintaining your heat.
Rest. The best thing about BBQ is the time spent with friends and family enjoying life. So sit back and enjoy the slow times, and make sure to rest your barbecue before slicing into it and serving.
