NBBQA is a Voice for Growth
Since becoming a member of the NBBQA many have seen great benefits and advancement of their BBQ careers. Many have taken their BBQ hobby from the backyard to the busi- ness office. Some have turned their enthusiasm into estab- lishing a restaurant or food truck. Many have developed rubs and sauces which now sit on the shelves of your fa- vorite store. Others have become professional food sport cooks. As every BBQ cook evolves, from the backyard to business, there are many factors which help in everyone’s BBQ growth. These influences come from a variety of direc- tions, which, when the BBQ pitmaster is open to them, help them become better at what he or she does.
When those whom we call legends (Mike Mills, Dave Ray- mond, Dave Anderson and others) began their journey there was only trial & error. If they were lucky, there was a mentor who would help them along. The other opportunities, like there is today, just were not available. Today we have tele- vision shows, YouTube, social media platforms, the internet
and ease of travel which make opportunities for growth more available. So, with all these influences, becoming a pitmaster, or at least learning the ins and outs of it, are all around us. Having said this, nothing takes the place of actu- ally starting a fire and cooking. These learning opportuni- ties helps us avoid some mistakes or learn new tricks, making it easier.
With all of the BBQ voices, one has to listen for knowledge. The National BBQ & Grilling Association seeks to be one of those for all looking to grow. Whether it’s as a backyard cook or a professional BBQ businessperson, the NBBQA seeks to offer opportunities for our members. We have listed below just a small overview of the opportunities the NBBQA offers as we seek to be one of the voices in which you can listen as you grow as a potential pit/grillmaster.
National Conference
For the past 30 years the NBBQA has offered the annual na- tional conference which has moved all over the country.
