A Hole in One! For the Fifth Annual Indio BBQ State Championship
While parts of the East were feeling the effects of an early winter, Indio, Cali- fornia was awash in sunshine and BBQ at the Indio California State BBQ Championship & Festival. Thirty- Seven teams came out to compete at the City Lights Golf Course for $10,300 in prize money. Some traveling from as far away as Mexico, Iowa, and Texas.
The Indio Chamber of Commerce spon- sored this family friendly and free event with the professional assistance of Robert Stouffer of So. Cal Event Management. “I want to say thank you to the City of Indio and our title spon- sor Coachella Valley GMC,” said Stouf- fer. “Without you this great event would not be possible.”
Over 5,000 visitors enjoyed sampling world class championship BBQ from some of the top pit masters in the na- tion. There was something for everyone including a kid zone with a petting zoo and bounce houses.
D.G. Firehouse BBQ Inc. took a first in chicken. Iowa’s Smokey D’s BBQ placed first in ribs. Boomerang BBQ got a 180 in pork. Big Poppa Smokers placed first in brisket. Both Boomerang BBQ and B’Mackin BBQ received 180 in dessert. The Grand Championship went to DG Firehouse BBQ Inc. while Big Poppa Smokers received the Re-
serve Grand.
“This was our fifth anniversary and we look forward to our sixth in 2020,” said Robert. Mark your calendars folks! This event is bound to fill up fast for next year.
