I Want My SCA - TV
By: SC Angus
Many of you remember when MTV
played music videos and had their
VJs plugging every music video out
there. During the early years I re-
member them even playing old
Elvis songs from his movies just so
they’d have enough videos. Were
you one of the many kids who
walked the malls telling everyone,
“I want my MTV?” I’m not sure if you realize it or not but the SCA has their own version called SCA-TV which can be viewed every week via Facebook and YouTube in which you’ll hear the latest news around the SCA.
Since the COVID-19 has put a lot of the contests on a hiatus of sorts this would be a good time for you to familiarize yourself with SCA-TV. Brett and Ken are going to use this time to both ed- ucate and entertain the viewers with various items. We’ll hear from champions talking steak and perhaps giving a mini-lesson. Thermoworks will teach us how to properly calibrate our digital thermometers, especially “The DOT.” Knife sharpening from a professional will help us get our tools ready for when life gets back to some sort of normalcy.
The entertainment factor will come in as the different guests make appearances from time to time. With all the different grills available there may even be a virtual cook-off. Could we see Brett cook a steak on a George Foreman? This is just a few of the thoughts going around as we all try to make the best of a bad situ- ation. Until we can all hang out again at an event, why not have some fun, even if it’s virtual.
Now say it with me, “I Want MY SCA-TV!”
Business Partner
Pit Barrel Cooker Company will be celebrating 10 years as a veteran owned company providing great barrel cookers to both the back- yard as well as professional cook. This simple barrel concept has made cooking creatively even more fun that it has been. You can use the Pit Barrel Cooker as a smoker, which is how most use it.
Hanging ribs or whole chickens with the hook style system the smoke kisses the meat as the fat drips down then it rises with the smoke to enhance the flavor. Then you can use it to grill a steak which brings us to the bounty.
Pit Barrel Cooker Company is offer- ing a $500 bounty to the first person to win a sanctioned steak
contest by cooking on a Pit Barrel. This is one of the ways Noah and Amber (owners of PBC) give back to the food sport commu- nity. We not only appreciate them being the official barrel cooker of the SCA but also for being all around great people.
ACE Hardware Points Race
With COVID-19 wreaking havoc on the planned events, we can consider this period in our points race as an intermission or a half-time of sorts. Although there may not be much movement at the moment, there has been leading up to this time and most cer- tainly will be when this is all over. It’s still close and anyone’s game to win by the time October rolls around. John Pendray out of Florida and Sandy Brown from Illinois have swapped places this month but still only 11 points separates the top four spots (and only four points separates Sandy from her husband, Tim). Making a huge jump in the points is past champion, Terry Roan, moving from 10th to 6th. With all the shifting going on prior to this brief pause, you can bet your bottom dollar it will continue once we’re all back to cooking regularly.
I hope you’re following the SCA on all the social media platforms. This is where you will receive all the latest news, events and the occa- sional funny meme. Also, fol- low our Top Ten points leaders to check out what they are doing during this time. You know they, as well as the rest of us, will be loaded for bear when we call all start cooking regularly again.
