this All-Star BBQ crew work on several of the eight whole hogs that helped feed the 1,800 plus event volunteers and the partygoers to the Social Club. This star-studded BBQ crew also ended up walking away with the first place World Championship rib on Saturday evening during the awards as they cooked to honor the memory of Social Club mem- ber Tee Wayne Abshire.
The attendee numbers prove just how massive this BBQ cookoff really is. 2020 saw a total three day attendance of 219,457. This count was up from the 215,685 that visited in 2019. The 2020 event was taking place during the first re- ports of the COVID-19 outbreak. Even with the pending sit- uation that was happening, I can safely say this is the

biggest barbecue competition that I have ever attended.
In closing, I can not begin to express my thanks enough for all of my BBQ family members, both old and new, for help- ing me experience what HLSR is all about. The greatest thing I witnessed about the event was how all proceeds go towards Texas kids. Every penny raised during this event goes to help Texas kids as contest winners only win tro- phies and recognition. Although I got to cross this event off of my BBQ Bucket List, I have decided that this event will always remain on the schedule TFN (Till Further Notice), which means it will remain listed on my BBQ Bucket List forever.
