A Message from the NBBQA President - Patrick Murty
It took more than hour of staring at a blank screen to even begin to put into words what
has occurred this past month in our Nation and in our Association since we all were last
able to gather together in groups of more than ten in Kansas City at the 2019 NBBQA Convention. I pray that by the time everyone is reading this we are back to some type of “normal operations”. With the restrictions put on mass gatherings, we will not have the opportunity to see each other this year at the NBBQA Convention in Louisville. This is
truly unfortunate as so many of us look forward to the convention as as time when we do
not have the normal work stresses and can focus on sharing new techniques, cooking together, trying new products, and telling our stories.
I want to take the opportunity to thank the entire NBBQA board and Sponsors who worked all year to focus on making the 2020 conven- tion great. There were many new class subjects and speakers coming in this year, which is what members have been asking for these past few years. Our Keynote speaker, John “Shrek” McPhee, alone would have been worth the trip. The good news is that as of this mo- ment it looks like we will have everyone back in Louisville, KY for NBBQA’s 30th year convention in 2021.
Who knows where we all will be by the time this is put to print, but in these times we are lucky to have the technology we do to stay in touch and still have some social interactions. Let us all remember that NBBQA is here as a network for everyone to be able to get help and information. We have email, phone, Facebook, and etc. to stay in touch. There are going to be many challenges for our members, so let’s do our best to stay in touch, give support and share information that will help us all get through these challenging times.
Maybe this is the perfect opportunity to take some of those original Paul Kirk cookbooks off the self, try that new cooking technique you’ve been thinking about, experiment with some new rub and sauce flavors, work on new menu ideas, or nail that finishing touch! These are times to spend with those close to you and to appreciate the opportunities and blessings available to us. I sure am looking forward to the NBBQA convention in 2021 to hear all the stories and eat some great food with my BBQ Family. Until then I pray every- one stays safe and healthy.
