Learn Everyday
Someone once said, “A day without learning is a wasted day.” This is a sentiment which has guided me throughout my life, whether in my own field of study or just because I want to know something about a movie I’m watching with all things in between. This has never been truer than when it comes to BBQ. Everyday there is something to learn from one of our NBBQA members, either personally or indirectly by watching them on YouTube.
Learning in the NBBQA isn’t always just about cooking ei- ther. I have read some business articles which have been posted on the Facebook page. Talked with food truck and restaurant owners about the ups as well as the downs which come along with it. There are members within the NBBQA with whom one can ask business questions pertaining to marketing, social networking, website construction and the like.
Opportunities to Give Back
They say everyone has a gift. A gift which makes them unique and sets them apart from the rest. It may not be the gift which is unique but the way the person who possesses
the gift uses it. In a recent conversation on this subject of being a member of the NBBQA, one member responded with the answer of this being their opportunity to give back to the world of BBQ. Legends such as Mike Mills, Dave Ray- mond or Dave Anderson haven’t always known all there is to know about BBQ but they’ve been doing it for so long their wisdom is second to none. They have so much to give back to people who have so many questions when it comes to BBQ.
I have spent my life in the field of communications, some have had a career in sales while others in marketing and its from here people have opportunities to help members in their businesses. There is always someone new coming to the NBBQA with questions as well as someone willing to offer answers. Regardless of your skill set, there is a place for you within the NBBQA to give back just like someone who took an interest in you to help you along.
These are my top three answers to the question, “Why am I a member of the NBBQA?” Yours may look different when you’re asked. I hope if you’re not a member you soon will be.
