OFCA has also been engaged in opposition to House Bill 402, legislation that expands the role of an interior designer in the state of Ohio, including allowing a certified interior designer to submit an interior technical submission to a building official to obtain a building permit without the seal of an architect or engineer. In February, OFCA distributed a letter to all 132 legislators expressing concern with the legislation and any changes that lessen the requirements of the Ohio Seal Law could threaten public safety.
With the legislative engagement on these pieces of legislation and others, this
is a perfect time of year to start scheduling a roundtable with the senators and representatives from your area to discuss these bills. These roundtables provide
an excellent opportunity to connect, or reconnect, with your local legislators to discuss important issues that are being addressed at the Statehouse, or in your local community. If you are interested in hosting a county roundtable, please contact Alexandra Denney at alexandra@fitzgibbongroup.com and she will work with you to invite your legislators and develop discussion topics.
Lastly, we would like to thank everyone who attended the OFCA Winter Symposium in Columbus at the beginning of March. The event was a huge success and we appreciated the opportunity to have Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted, Senators Bob Hackett and Tim Schaffer, Department of Public Safety Director Stickrath, Representatives Jay Edwards and Brian Baldridge, and others address fire chiefs from all corners of the state. Many chiefs were also able to connect with their legislators during an evening reception at the Statehouse.
Following such a successful event, we encourage you to continue fostering relationships with your local elected officials. Legislators always value hearing from you, so don’t hesitate to call, email or text them to schedule a time to meet face to face in the district. Not only do the legislators want to hear about the issues that are important to the fire services, but these conversations also help expand our association’s influence at the Statehouse.
