Happy New Year and Happy 100th birthday APTA! I think we can all agree that 2020 was challenging. We were forced to think outside of the box and to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. Although we had to adjust to a “new normal,” we were still able to accomplish great things and develop new programs to adapt to a more virtual way of living and learning.

The OPTA staff worked hard this past year
to develop a webpage on the OPTA website dedicated to the physical therapist assistant. The PTA Community page includes a list of leadership positions that PTAs are eligible to run for, PTA member highlights, a blog, and other updates and information pertinent to the physical therapist assistant or student. We are continuously looking for content to include on the page and are open to ideas to make the page more engaging for our Ohio PTA community.
The PTA Community webpage was a result of conversations and ideas shared amongst the
PTA Advisory Committee members along with OPTA Executive Director Victoria Gresh. The
PTA Advisory Committee consists of PTAs who share the vision of improving engagement and communication, exploring new ideas to promote the practice of PTAs, and developing PTA leaders. I would like to thank the OPTA staff and leadership, Debi Benjamin, Sara Davidson, Katie Sutton, Bradley Wood, and Michelle Stires for volunteering to serve the past two years and for lighting
the path that led to the development of this committee. If you are interested in serving on the committee, please check out the PTA Community page for more information.
The APTA PTA Caucus has made it a goal to be more engaged through their social media platforms. You can check out the APTA PTA Caucus page on Facebook for any important updates or check out recordings from recent meetings. The most recent PTA Town Meeting from December featured APTA President Sharon
Dunn as the guest speaker. There are also several panel conversations covering topics ranging from professional development, navigating the job search, and ways to use our voice to influence change.
The PTA Caucus also wants to highlight any unique or exciting accomplishments, achievements, or ways you are getting involved to include on their page as well!
2020 taught us many lessons and highlighted how flexible and resilient we are. While I’m glad to put last year behind us, I do hope we continue to be innovative and strive to think outside of the box to keep our profession moving forward. Here’s to the next 100 years with the APTA.
