“Non-Traditional” Ways to Earn Your CEUs
Last year, the Ohio Practice Act was updated to include new opportunities for physical therapy professionals to earn CEUs in non-traditional settings .
For example, providing volunteer services to indigent and uninsured persons is eligible for up to six CEUs (for PTs) and three CEUs (for PTAs) per renewal cycle . See Section 4755-23-08(G)(7) for more details and information on how to document your service for CEUs .
Do you hold a specialty certification from the ABPTS? When you successfully renew your certification, you will qualify for six CEUs in the year you renew .
Has it been a few years since you received your license and do you want to review your knowledge of Ohio’s laws? The OTPTAT Board is developing a renewal jurisprudence module that, if successfully passed, will earn you two CEUs per renewal cycle . The module should be available later this year .
Of course, the old tried-and- true methods of earning your CEUs haven’t gone away –
• log in to OPTA’s online webinars (live or on-demand)
• attend Transform 2020: Ohio’s Premier Physical Therapy Conference (scheduled for April 24-25 in downtown Columbus)
•
•
•
•
attend OPTimize 2020 (scheduled for Sept. 25)
attend your local district’s meetings and events (posted on your district page under About Us > Districts)
teach a course, workshop, or webinar. Submit an individual application for review; PTs can earn up to 12 CEUs per renewal cycle; PTAs up to six CEUs.
write an article or textbook or provide a published review/ critique of a book or someone else’s article. Submit an individual application; depending on the type of publication, you can earn up to 10 CEUs.
No matter how you choose to earn your CEUs – just be sure to earn them! PTA license renewal is just nine months away... . .take stock of your CEUs earned this renewal cycle and make a plan to earn the rest .
