                 SIXTH FORM
 VISION STATEMENT
Sixth Form at Strangford Integrated College seeks to provide the highest quality education and to enrich the lives of our students, within a lively, caring community, equipping each individual to take their place as a 21st Century Global Citizen.
LIFE IN SIXTH FORM
The College is fortunate to have a thriving and growing Sixth Form. Our curriculum is continually expanding and under review and students entering Sixth Form have a choice of a growing range of subjects at A Level.
INDUCTION
On arrival into Year 13, the students follow a busy induction programme which lays out the expectations for Sixth Form at Strangford Integrated College. In Year 13 students take part in a residential in Lorne where they take part in bushcraft and outside team building activities which help establish relationships amongst Sixth Form students and staff alike. They explore and evaluate the leadership roles available to them in Strangford Integrated College. This residential encourages students to forge lasting relationships in line with the strong pastoral ethos of Strangford Integrated College. In Year 14 students visit Corrymeela where they reflect on their time in school and discuss preparations for their next steps after life
at Strangford.
CURRICULUM
Strangford Integrated College offers a broad and balanced curriculum with a blend of traditional academic A levels, vocational courses and BTecs. Alongside the broad and balanced curriculum, a comprehensive enrichment programme is offered, meeting the needs and interests of our students and those of higher education and employers.
PASTORAL SUPPORT IN THE SIXTH FORM
At Strangford, we know our students well, ensuring that they feel highly valued and secure at all stages of their career. Sixth Form is led by two Heads of Year. Every class also has a Form Tutor, who is responsible for the welfare, progress and development of the students in their care. The
Form Tutor is an important link between home and college and will liaise closely with parents on matters of mutual concern related to the student’s well-being and happiness. The School has the services of a Student Counsellor, provided by Family Works. The Vice Principals have overall responsibility for Pastoral Care at Strangford Integrated College.
INDEPENDENT LEARNING
Private supervised study is facilitated in a recently refurbished Sixth Form study area. The effective use of private study is a key factor in determining a student’s performance in the Sixth Form. All Sixth Form students are given a school managed iPad to use for the duration of their A level studies. Subject specific apps and general apps to assist learning and teaching are available for students on request. We are working towards becoming an Apple Distinguished School.
We recently made a significant investment in installing Clevertouch screens in all the classrooms in the College. This provides vibrant immersive learning experiences for our students through collaborative touch
screen technology.
LEADERSHIP
Our society needs more people with exceptional leadership skills. We need individuals who can analyse what’s required, take balanced decisions and who are driven by a deep sense of what’s right. The College operates an innovative prefect system, under the leadership of the Head Students and their deputies. Our Head Students are more than mere figure heads; they lead our students and represent the College at public occasions. As well as our Deputy Head Students we have House Prefects and Senior Prefects who are role models for the younger students. Sixth Form students also have the use of a recently refurbished Sixth Form Centre where peer relationships can be developed and extended in a caring and social environment.
