SKY RANCH AND DESERT SKIES MIDDLE SCHOOLS
The Sky Ranch and Desert Skies Middle Schools project, completed for the Washoe County School District, included the new construction of two prototype middle schools located in Sparks, NV and Sun Valley, NV respectively. The two-story 189,000-square-foot facilities function a secondary school with classrooms, science labs, administrative offices, and a multipurpose room with commercial kitchen for 1,400 students. Both schools were constructed on a foundation consisting of cast- in-place concrete supported by continuous and isolated footings with elevated decks, a masonry structural frame, an exterior of masonry brick with metal panels, and metal deck roof. The schools also feature a gymnasium, outdoor basketball courts, an outdoor athletic field with running track, general use restrooms, wet and dry utilities, and a geothermal well field. Sky Ranch Middle School and Desert Skies Middle School now provide state-of-the-art facilities to help alleviate overcrowding throughout the Washoe County School District.
