10th National Science Film Festival of India (NSFFI) 2020
l National Science Film Festival of India (NSFFI) is a platform to interact with filmmakers, scientists and enthusiasts to create a better understanding of the universe; encourage citizen science and public participation and promote appreciation of science films.
l The NSFFI was to be organised in collaboration with Tripura State Council for Science & Technology, Govt. of Tripura, during 18-22 March 2020 at Agartala. The festival has been postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic. Fresh dates will be announced soon.
l Films were invited on themes like science, technology, innovations, energy, environment, water, health and medicine, biographies, agriculture, and traditional knowledge.
l Three hundred seventeen films in four regular competitive categories have been received, which include 58 films in Interface category (Films funded by government and non-government institutions/organisations), 121 films in Fusion category (Films by independent filmmakers), 73 films in Out of the Box category (Films by media institutions/film schools/universities/college students), 65 films in Rainbow category (Films by school students of class 6-12).
l The jury has shortlisted 116 films for screening at the 10th NSFFI 2020
lChairman National Jury, Shri Girish Kasaravalli, Veteran Filmmaker, announced the 10th NSFFI 2020 awards.
New Awards
Three new awards under competitive categories have been introduced for the 10th NSFFI 2020:
l ‘VP-DW Manthan Award’ (VP in collaboration with Deutsche Welle, Germany). Eight films were received under this category.
Award Money: Rs.100,000 (First), Rs.75,000 (Second), Rs.50,000 (Third)
lDestination Tripura Award: For this competitive category films on Tripura’s rich biodiversity like orange/pineapple/rubber gardens, bamboo/tea plantation, jute cultivation, paddy fields, true potato seeds, wildlife sanctuaries and S&T theme related to Tripura were invited. Forty-nine films were received under this category.
Award Money : Rs.150,000 (First), Rs.1,00,000 (Second), Rs. 75,000 (Third)
lPoonam Chaurasia Memorial Award for Best Female Science Filmmaker / Cinematographer/Editor up to the age of 35 yrs.:This award was constituted in the memory of Ms Poonam Chaurasia, Filmmaker, to encourage the women science filmmakers. Award Money: Rs.50,000.
