The maps and atlases prepared by NATMO serve as visible tools to understand the changes and developments taking place in the domains of geo-environmental, political, and socio-economic conditions in the country. NATMO covers almost all the themes pertaining to physical, political, economic, cultural, historical and other related environmental and societal issues that serve as the basic tools for a wide range of users. NATMO has a proven track record in urban mapping as well. Using high resolution satellite data rectified with GCPs (Ground Control Points) collected through detailed field survey using GPS, are being used as base information for the preparation of large scale city maps. To promote tourism and related industry, maps on tourist places and routes including adventure tourism maps,
maps on national parks and wildlife sanctuaries
are being prepared and updated. The organization motivates planners and decision makers to use maps as complimentary documents for development planning at national level, state/UT level and district and sub-district levels. District planning maps are being prepared to meet the planners’ demand.

Atlas Cartography, Thematic Cartography, Urban Mapping, Geographical Researches, Web GIS, Publication, GIS Development and Management, International Cooperation, Training and Education.
THEMES OF ATLASES
Several themes conceived by NATMO are Population, Administrative, Climate, Physical Forest, Water Resources, Land Resources, Agriculture, Social, Infrastructure Industry, State Maps, Indian Ocean, Tourism, Education, Historical, Health, Environment & Pollution, Business & Economy, and Cultural.
MANDATE
• Compilation of the National Atlas in English, Hindi and other regional languages with timely updating.
• Preparation of School Atlases for all educational boards to provide accurate and standard base information for knowledge gain.

To become a distinguished institution for providing world-class atlas
and thematic maps in the field of education, health, natural resources, environmental management, historical and cultural features, tourism, trade and commerce etc and 24x7 unrestricted web map services to the a large number of stakeholders spread across the internet.
OBJECTIVES
• To prepare atlases and thematic maps
• To collaborate with other central and state government organizations to meet their map requirements.
• To promote the use of geospatial information and technology in cartography
• To provide training in Remote sensing, Geographical Information System, Global Positioning System and Digital Cartography.
• To publish maps and atlases for the benefit of various users
• To carryout geographic researches.
