Chairs for Scientists of Eminence: To recognize outstanding contributions of Indian scientists in any field of Science & Technology, within the purview of INSA, 10 Chairs of Distinguished Professorship have been created. Additionally, INSA Senior Scientist Program provides grants to Fellows to carry out
their work. INSA Emeritus Scientist Program offers institutional affiliations to senior scientists to facilitate their scientific pursuits. This position is for life.
Young Scientists: Medals and Awards: Since 1974, INSA Medal for Young Scientists has been awarded annually to scientists below the age of 35 years selected based exclusively on the work carried out in India. INSA has also established Prof. Har Swarup Memorial Endowment Award given once in three years to the recipient of INSA Medal for Young Scientists in any branch of biological sciences. Up
to two INSA Young Historian of Science awards are also given annually.
Indian National Young Academy of Sciences:
Indian National Young Academy of Sciences was established in 2015 to provide a forum for young scientists to exchange ideas and develop synergies. INYAS annually inducts 20 scientists up to 40 years in age for 5 years and, therefore, at any time the membership is limited to a 100 scientists.
Awards and Medals: INSA confers seventy awards and honours on a regular basis to encourage scientists and science-promoters to formally recognize their contributions. The awards are in four categories: International Awards; General Medals; Subject-wise Medals/Lectures; and INSA Teachers Awards.
International Awards: The international awards comprise: INSA Vainu-Bappu Memorial Award for outstanding contribution to Astronomy/Astrophysics; Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Medal for international cooperation in S&T and for contribution to the public understanding of science; P.M.S. Blackett Memorial Lecture and Sir Jagadis Chandra Bose Memorial Lecture Awards-these two lecture awards are triennial and are given alternately to outstanding scientists of international repute.

• Supporting scientific research
• Informing the government on
societal aspects of science
• Developing policies through well-researched, evidence-based syntheses
• Taking initiatives to inform the nation on future science, education, and research in their broadest dimensions
• Performing all other acts that may assist in, or be necessary for the fulfillment of the above mentioned objectives of the academy, nationally and internationally including development of appropriate interfaces
