  PIONEERING A NEW FUTURE 81
covered the following disciplines: mechanical, electro technical, fluid flow, thermal, optical, medical devices, and radiological.
The accreditation services to medical laboratories are given in the following disciplines: clinical biochemistry, clinical pathology, haematology, microbiology & infectious disease serology, histopathology, cytopathology, flow cytometry, cytogenetics, molecular testing, medical imaging – conformity assessment body (MI-CAB), projectional radiography & fluoroscopy (x-ray, bone densitometry (DEXA), dental x-ray- OPG, mammography and fluoroscopy), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound and colour doppler, nuclear medicine (SPECT, PET CT, PET MRI) and basic diagnostic interventional radiology procedures.
In 2011, NABL ventured into new area of accreditation, that is, Accreditation of Proficiency Testing Providers (as per ISO/IEC 17043), which facilitates the labs to get access to proficiency testing and inter-laboratory comparison within India.
NABL achieved international recognition for
its proficiency testing providers’ accreditation scheme in accordance with ISO/IEC 17043 in 2019 from ILAC. The accreditation services to PTP are currently given in the following disciplines: testing, calibration, medical and inspection.
In 2014, NABL also launched another programme on Accreditation of Reference Material (RM)
Producers (as per ISO 17034), which facilitates the labs to get reference materials indigenously.
NABL achieved international recognition for its Reference Material Producers accreditation scheme in accordance with ISO 17034 in 2020 from ILAC.
The accreditation services to RMP are currently given in the following categories: chemical composition, biological & clinical properties, physical properties, engineering properties, and miscellaneous properties.
RECOGNITION
Most of the regulators/government departments have identified accreditation as the pre-requisite criteria for their recognition (APEDA, FSSAI, BEE, BIS, CPCB, MNRE, GeM, Department of Consumer Affairs/Weights & Measures, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare /CDSCO, Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC)).
LABORATORY CONCLAVE
With a view to generate a mutli-stakeholder review and discussion forum with NABL customers, NABL has been continuously organizing Annual Laboratory Conclave since 2012 in the different regions of the country. NABL also organizes PTP/ RMP conclave every year. •
NABL ASSESSORS TRAINING
NABL constantly endeavours to increase its pool of trained assessors from all appropriate sources to cater to the demands of accreditation. The assessors are drawn from a pool of experts
who are actively involved in CABs or industries. Some of the readily available sources of experts in the country are from the leading CABs
in government, as well
as private sector. NABL conducts laboratory assessors’ training courses
