Rockets with Balloon
This hands-on activity uses principle of air and thrust. When the air flashes out of the balloon, it creates a forward motion called thrust. Thrust is a driving force generated by energy. Creation of thrust depends on the size and shape of the balloon. In a real rocket, thrust is created by the force of burning rocket fuel as it blasts from the rocket engine.
What to do?
1. Tie one end of the rope to a chair.
2. Put the other end of the rope through the straw.
3. Pull the rope tight and tie it to another support
in the room.
4. Blow up the balloon and pinch the end of the
balloon and tape the balloon to the straw.
5. Leave the end of balloon from where you
have blown air.
6. Let the balloon go and watch the rocket fly.
