         PIONEERING A NEW FUTURE 33
 SUCCESS STORIES
Hydrogen Generation:
Clean and renewable energy sources without carbon footprint is the ultimate solution for the energy-related woes in the society.
Nobler Gold: For the first time CeNS has produced Au microcrystallites in unconventional crystal lat- tices that exhibit practically no or little interaction with mercury and aqua regia.
Self-heating Cover Glass: Metal mesh embedded on glass/ PET/quartz plates serve as transparent heating platforms for a variety of
     applications.
Such platforms
are ideal in
spectroscopy measurements with suitable substrate such as quartz, which remains transparent from UV to IR ranges.
Smart Window: A new class of smart window device with a toggle option between opaque (T~5%) and transparent states (T~ 85%) in select areas has been fabricated. The device consists of microfluidic cavities filled with liquid optically matched with the glass substrate.
Dr Harsh Vardhan wearing India's first face mask based on
triboelectricity
manufacturing of oxide coated metal mesh- based transparent conducting plates, aims to produce cost-effective, large area, robust, transparent conducting glasses for smart window applications.
Technology Transfer: CeNS has transferred two technology know-how’s namely, Projection lithography and Triboelectric facemask, to industry successfully.
Tribo E Face Mask: The deltoid-shaped face mask is snug-fitting and causes no speech distortion, no fogging on glasses, and indeed, packs well leaving practically no room for leakage while breathing. The design also allows for high breathability with minimal discomfort. Most importantly, the fabric layers are chosen so that the possibility of deactivating pathogens exists due to tribo- electricity generation. The design technology of the facemask us transferred to Camellia Clothing Ltd., a Bangalore based garment company.
OUTREACH PROGRAMMES
The centre conducts successful science outreach programmes, namely, “Vigyani Vidyarthi Vichar Vinimay” V4 and Research Outreach Initiative Studentship (ROIS) to reach out to a large number of student communities ranging from high school to post-graduation level.
V4 Programme: To stimulate and nurture scientific curiosity in the young minds, CeNS embarked upon a science initiation program for students on 1 August 2015. Under this program, the Centre has reached out to high school, pre- university, and university students, involving them in innovative science learning activities, including lab tours, scientific talks, and experimental demonstrations.
Research Outreach Initiative (ROI): The Research Outreach Initiative Studentship (ROIS) provides research experience to highly motivated students pursuing post-graduate studies in physical/chemical sciences or a relevant branch of engineering/technology. •
