The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) is a premier scientific research organization in the northeastern region of India, which was
conceived and nurtured by the Assam Science Society in its initial years and inaugurated by Nobel Laureate Dorothy C Hodgkin on 3 November 1979.
Subsequently, it was supported by the
state government as its only autonomous
R&D institute till March 2009. The
institute was taken over in March 2009
by the Ministry of Science & Technology
as one of its autonomous R&D institutes.
IASST is now an ISO 9001:2015 institute for research & development, consultancy and testing services in the fields of life sciences, physical sciences, computational and mathematical sciences, environmental studies, product development from physical and bioresources.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Plasma in Understanding Basic Science and Device Fabrication: One major accomplishment in the field of basic plasma at IASST is the study of Peregrine Solitons in multi-component plasma.
The first report of experimental observation
of Peregrine solitons in a multi-component plasma with the critical concentration of
negative ions is from IASST. PRL 1 07, 255005 (2011) Plasmonic devices have been fabricated at IASST using plasma
polymerized PPA-Au nanocomposite films. The merits of plasma processed
devices are high stability, flexibility, and good responsivity. Scientific Reports | 5:1 8276.
Cost-effective Suture Biomaterial for Stitching Surgical Wound: IASST’s current research is
on determination of surface characteristic of these sutures to enhance their tensile strength
