INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
NABL on the basis of its prior experience and knowledge of accreditation, as well as the support it received from the National Physical Laboratory became a founder member of Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC) in 1995 and full member of International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) in 1999. In
the year 1999 to get APLAC Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRA) for Accreditation of Testing, including Medical and Calibration Laboratories,
a preassessment of the NABL was conducted by APLAC by then APLAC Evaluator.
2000: NABL obtains Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC) and International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) Signatory status for testing and calibration as per ISO/IEC 17025
2004: APLAC & ILAC MRA Signatory status renewed for testing and calibration
2008: APLAC & ILAC MRA signatory status renewed for testing and calibration as per ISO/IEC 17025 and extended for medical testing as per ISO 15189
2012: APLAC & ILAC MRA signatory status renewed for testing, calibration and medical fields
2016: APLAC & ILAC MRA signatory status reaffirmed till 2020 for testing, calibration and medical fields and extended for proficiency testing providers (PTP) & Reference Material Producers (RMP).
ACCREDITATION SCHEMES
The ISO/IEC Guide 58 was replaced by International Standard ISO/IEC 17011:2004 in January 2006. NABL then adopted ISO/IEC Guide 25-1990 as its basic accreditation criteria. The accreditation services to testing laboratories cover the following disciplines: chemical, biological, mechanical, electrical, electronics, fluid flow, forensic, non-destructive (NDT), photometry, radiological, diagnostic radiological QA testing, and software & IT system.
Meanwhile, accreditation of clinical laboratories under NABL was launched in May 1998. And the accreditation facility for forensic laboratories under NABL was launched on 2 May 1999. The services
