Description and Functionality
MoPAReST is a mobile app for articulation therapy used to rehabilitate patients with speech disorders, harnessing the power of digital technology while retaining SLPs in the loop. Automatic assessment of pathological (misarticulated) speech using speech signal processing is an integral part of this smart system. A web interface will be used by the SLP which enables the SLP to digitize their interactions with their patients and monitor patient progress remotely at a convenient time. Patient speech is assessed using speech processing algorithms that run natively (no internet needed) on the mobile device and provide instant feedback to the patient. SLP can listen to the patient speech view the automatic assessment and correct the assessment if required through the web console.
State-of-the-art
No such platform exists for providing comprehensive speech therapy using both digital technology as well as involvement of SLPs exists as of now. None for Indian languages at all. The patient and SLP are virtually in touch even when they are not connected in real time and space. This platform virtually bridges the gap between SLPs and patients, especially for rural patients.
