Description and Functionality
The device prevents possible fracture of a hip joint during sudden fall of an elderly. The device is made to protect and shield the greater trochanter of the Femur bone getting impacted during a sudden fall on a hard surface. The product is made of a microcellular thermoplastic, which is injection molded in a unique profile geometry to absorb and attenuate the impact force and associated energy by dispersing the same to the surrounding muscle mass. The device is useful for people with Alzheimer, Parkinson, unbalanced walking, low bone density and in particular old females with frail structure.
State-of-the-art
Microcellular Thermoplastics Injection Moulding technology was utilized to evolve the lightest possible hip protection device. No such device (microcellular polymer based) exist anywhere, however, similar functional devices exist in US and European markets.
Stage of Development
The technology was transferred through FITT, IIT Delhi to Ms/ Ozla Healthcare Pvt Ltd., Noida in 2016 (http://www.ozlahealthcare.com/ products.php?cid=Mjg=). The product trade named as “Tro-Guard” is now available online at Amazon
