Not many could have struggled and reached such a height unless the spirit remains alive in them. Our education system needs to be overhauled in order to identify and accommodate such unconventional intellectuals and nurtured with adequate care and concern.
India is known for its mathematical legacy from time immemorial. Many inspiring and leading scientific ideas and innovations find their origin here. Albert Einstein once said that “the whole world has to be thankful to Indians, but for their great gift of ‘Zero’ to mathematics.” It would become an even more prosperous nation, if it gives space to its intellectuals coming from non-formal and unconventional education streams.
Ramanujan rightly stated his struggle that “I have not trodden through the conventional regular course which is followed in a University course, but I am striking out a new path for myself”. We need to replace the existing state of affairs in conventional education system, in order to offer the right avenue for such brilliant children of our nation by addressing the economic disparity, favouritism of different kinds, proliferating corruption, commercialized education system, declining human values and lack of infrastructure in public education system. We need a scientific and progressive outlook in order to inspire and encourage the intellectuals of Ramanujan’s kind of our nation.
When we celebrate Ramanujan’s death centenary and his contributions, we should extend our services to the needy children who have the indomitable spirit of achieving something that would benefit not only our country but also the entire world.
