And what of the showmen
The travelling showmen,
Who set up their camps
On our showgrounds each year? All their flash house-vans, Spruiker and prize stands, Trailers and trailers
Of bright showie-gear?
Silent the dodgems,
The dipper and stunt-men; Clowns with mouths open To swallow a ball;
Gone is the shooting
Of wooden ducks, sitting High on a shelf,
Just waiting to fall. Kewpies and teddies Prizes are ready,
All packed away
Until next year’s show call.
Where are the showmen,
The travelling showmen? They’re waiting to come back To Noorat’s show ground. Side shows a-plenty,
A record show-entry,
To the sweet, tinkling ring
Of the merry-go-round.
